Day 8 - Thursday, September 7, 2006 - Hike out to Hobbs Lake We woke up to low cloud and cold. We packed up and started hiking out of Indian Basin at 9:20am. About an hour later it started drizzling lightly. We had lunch at Seneca and decided to push through to Hobbs Lake as we couldn't find a place to camp at Seneca. We had originally planned on staying a day at Seneca Lake to do some hiking around there but the weather was so miserable that we decided to just keep going until we got to Hobbs. We had some more rain and got to Hobbs Lake at 2:35pm. We got the tent up in light drizzle and settled in for the afternoon. It rained until around 4:30pm, when I got up and made some hot tea. It sure was a cold and miserable day. We decided we would hike out the next day. |

Day 9 - Friday, September 8, 2006 - Hike out and drive to Kemmerer As there was no sun to speak of we just got up at 7:45, packed up and started a quick march out to the car after breakfast. We had a short stop at Photographer's Point where we met up with the 3 New Englanders who camped near us in Indian Basin. It wasn't raining but there was high cloud and it was cold. In all it took us 2 hrs 40mins to hike from Hobbs Lake to Elkhart Park. The soul of my one foot and the toes on my other foot were very sore but I just kept on marching. Robert's pack weighed 36 pounds and mine was 33 pounds when we got back to the car. We piled everything in the car and headed for Pinedale. We weren't able to find a room there so we pushed on and found a little motel in Kemmerer for $60. It was wonderful to have a shower, use lots of soap and hot water and wash my hair. We then went out for a nice dinner at a local steakhouse and watched TV the rest of the evening. Day 10 - Saturday, September 9, 2006 - Exploring Kemmerer and Salt Lake City We were hoping to go to the Fossil Museum in Kemmerer but it was closed so we went to a little store around the central square that sold fossils. Robert bought 3 great looking fossils in limestone and I got a few other odds and ends. We then noticed a storefront that said it was the very first J.C. Penney store. We went on there and I found really nice T-shirts and shorts for just $1.97 each. |

After there was nothing more to do in Kemmerer we headed for Salt Lake City. We got there at around 1pm and went to the Planetarium. We saw two IMAX films, Black Holes and Deep Ocean 3D. They were both really good. We spent several more hours going through the exhibits at the planetarium until it was time to go have dinner and get back to the airport. The End. |
