Granite Peak - Montana - USA

August 2002

Jane and Robert on the grassy plains.

View of Mystic Lake at the top of the Switchbacks From Hell.  By now our packs were considerably lighter so the trip was not as bad as coming up.  However, my feet already had blisters and with the downward motion they got very much worse.

Our last camp on this trip, near Mystic Lake.  We could finally wash some clothes and take a well earned rest.

As we still had one day left we went on a 12 mile hike to the upper lakes.  Here is Robert enjoying the sunshine.

There were many dead tree stumps and roots in the lakes, evidence that this was once a wooded valley with just a small river running through it.

Jane and Robert on the shore of Island Lake.  The wind was blowing but he sunshine was surprisingly warm.
