Refurbished Items

This shows a section of the 1870 table like the one that was missing.

American Renaissance Revival Victorian table

I was asked to make a replacement for a piece of marquetry that was missing from an old table.

This is the replacement piece I made.  It was a challenge to make the gaps created when the original pieces of veneer were cut out with a scroll saw as I use the craft knife method which does not leave gaps.  Once the finish has been applied and over time the yellow patina will appear.               2005

Chest of drawers
I paid only $15 for this cabinet at a junk furniture yard.  With new knobs, Marquetry top and some polyurethane it sure underwent a significant transformation. Total cost:  $48.   1999

50c Chair
I picked this little chair up for $0.50 at an auction.  After stripping the finish off I applied several coats of shellac.  I added a few layers of batting to the seat which puffed it out nicely and finally a beautiful piece of upholstery fabric to finish it off.  Total cost:  $8.  1999

Iron Table
I bought this little iron table at a department store for $10.  It had a paper picture stuck on the face  which I removed.  I then made a sheet of Marquetry which I stuck in place.  Now it's worth a whole lot more and it's a whole lot prettier too.   1999

Billiard Table restoration

I was given the 4" long piece of veneer which is shown at the top of the picture on the right.  I sanded one block, as shown in the circle above, so that I could see what the original color of the wood was, and thereby determine what wood species were used.  I made 9 ft of this strip, which was to go on a billiard table that was being restored by a friend of mine.  2001

 Chess Table restoration

This French chess table is over 200 years old.  The center of the board had separated and split.  I removed and reused the original pieces that were loose and reinforced the bottom where it had some wood missing.  2001

Trintella Compass Rose

This table top was removed from a boat so that I could insert a compass rose into the center of it.  I routed a 1/32" hollow into the center of the table where the veneer was inlaid.  2002
