Celtic Moments
At 26 x 18 x 21" this is the largest box I've
made so far. For more pictures and information on this piece, click on the picture to the left.   1999

I cut the trunk up and dried the wood out for 2 months and planed it to prepare the wood for the construction of this box.  The butterfly wings are Turtleback Poplar with Ebony spots.  I shaded the wings by charring the veneer in hot sand. The background is Ash and Olive Ash.

Spalted Maple Butterfly
A friend of mine found a log at the curbside that someone had chopped down in their yard.  The piece had burls and spalting running through the entire trunk, so he put it in his truck and took it home.  I was lucky enough to get some of it.
I made this box for my friends Alan and Sharon for their wedding.    2002  #12

Zebra Box

This was the first time I made something using Marquetry, my first design for Marquetry, and my first time making hand-made dovetail joints.  It is Ebony with Guatambú and a border of Elm Burl. The box is made of Spanish Cedar.

Pez
A friend of mine asked me to make a special box for a special friend of his.  Her nickname is Pez and she is Irish, so I came up with this design.

Ndebele
The name comes from the art of the Ndebele tribe in Africa. They paint their houses with bright colours, separating each colour with black lines, forming patterns as I have used for this piece.

Turtleback Starburst
To give my client an idea of what her 55" x 24" chest lid would look like I made this scaled down design. For this one I used Turtleback Poplar (thanks to Dave Bilger), Yellow Poplar and a central starburst of Benge.
