Marquetry is the art of cutting and combining different pieces of wood veneer to form pictures and patterns. All the pieces lie next to each other forming a single sheet of veneer. This sheet is then applied to a substrate or a piece of furninture and sanded lightly. A finish like lacquer or oil is applied to bring out the colors of the wood and to seal the item.
Jane Burke is a marquetry artist selling her work at art shows as well as on her websites. She also teaches marquetry in Georgia and North Carolina. Click on the Classes link above to see upcoming classes and be sure to get some marquetry supplies on the Supplies page to get you off to a good start.
